As a part of our July service project, the Rotaract Club of Greater Louisville participated in the Metro United Way's Adopt a Camp Kindergarten. Rotaract adopted a Camp
Kindergarten classroom at Fairdale Elementary by providing 38 donated
backpacks filled with school supplies. Camp Kindergarten is a Metro United Way Success By 6 program that helps families prepare themselves and their children for beginning kindergarten. Camp Kindergarten enables children to better understand and look forward to the kindergarten experience, meet staff, become familiar with the school building and learn bus safety. Parents learn the skills their children need to become better prepared for entering kindergarten, and also get information on meeting the requirements for public school enrollment, including immunizations, how to handle parent/teacher conferences and other important issues. Each backpack needs to contained: 1 set of pencils; 1 large box of crayons; 1 box of watercolor markers; 1 box of watercolor paints; 1 box of colored pencils; 1 pair of scissors; 1 box of tissues; 1 bottle of glue; 2 glue sticks; 5 solid colored pocket folders; 1 spiral notebook; and 1 box of 1-gallon ziplock bags. Several Rotary Clubs, including Prospect/Goshen and South Louisville/Okolona, also contributed. |
