Many people are familiar with the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. You take a paper angel from the mall, buy gifts, and return them. What many do not know is where those gifts go next. Members of the Rotaract Club of Greater Louisville volunteered in December at the Salvation Army warehouse to help sort incoming gifts for the Angel Tree program. Members assisted in unloading trucks, inspecting bags, and adding additional items if necessary. The huge warehouse on Preston Highway is the central distribution point for the Angel Tree program. This service event has been a favorite of Rotaract members for three years. |

On "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, Rotaract joined forces with Rotarian Ted Loebenburg for the Buy Nothing Day Free Coat Exchange. This was the first year for the exchange to take place in Louisville. The simple plan is that on one day, people who have an extra coat (or coats) bring them, and those who need a coat take a coat. Over 600 coats were given away in just 4 hours. This simple yet impactful event will be continued next year with hopes of adding more exchange locations in the city. |

For the third consecutive year, members of the Rotaract Club of Greater Louisville commemorated Veterans Day by participating in a "flag in" at Cave Hill Cemetery. The event, organized by the local Flags4Vets, places American flags on the graves of over 7,000 military men and women at Cave Hill. Several Rotaractors also participated in a fundraiser walk through the cemetery prior to the event. |

Members of the Rotaract Club of Greater Louisville joined forces with members of the Rotary Club of East Louisville Sunrise in October for a community Halloween festival in Middletown. Rotaract members added some creativity to the booth by bringing Halloween decorations and setting up a game where children could "fish" for candy in our make-shift pond. The game was a huge success with many "repeat customers!" |
